Explain the Liquid mixing function in the ROTOR?

Answer : Although the ROTOR was never designed as a liquid handling Robot it is possible to use it for transferring cells that are stored in liquid. When using liquid the user must use long pin pads (96 or 384). 

The ROTOR Software provides a stirring function to ensure that the cells are in suspension. This helps with the transfer of cells.

Options are available which allow the user to make changes to the stirring settings. The attached PDF explains how to find these. It also explains in detail what the head does during a stir.

Laboratories use both Round Bottom and Flat Bottom Multi-Well plates available from companies like Nunc. Both of these styles of plates are compatible with the ROTOR. To get the best use of the ROTOR and the stirring function we would recommend the Flat Bottom Multi-Well plates. 

Note: At the time of writing the ROTOR+ uses a different stirring method. Due to the changes in motors used in the ROTOR+ stirring may not appear to work as well. We would recommend a brief vortex of the plate before liquid transfer on the ROTOR+.
